Epicor Cloud ERP Solutions were a common theme at Epicor’s Insights User Conference in Las Vegas this past April. Craig Downing from Epicor’s Cloud Development Team and George Trudell from Ultra, among many others, delivered excellent presentations on Epicor Cloud ERP Solutions and the movement toward cloud ERP deployments in the manufacturing and distribution industries. Both discussed “true cloud” deployments, and the various deployment models between true cloud and on-premise solutions. Also covered were the benefits and cost of ownership differences between the various models, and what organizations can do to effectively transition their business systems to the cloud.
ERP vendors’ cloud ERP systems are now growing from nascent stages to standard offerings, and the need for ERP vendors to offer cloud solutions is imperative to remain competitive. A 2013 survey by Gartner shows that 47% of organizations would move the majority of their core ERP systems to the cloud within five years. As of 2016, in nearly every ERP selection project in which Ultra is involved, cloud is included in the conversation.
What is “True Cloud”?
What constitutes cloud ERP? According to Craig and George, there are a number of definitions, and depending on who you ask, you may not get the same answers. However, both pointed out that a “true cloud” or “pure cloud” solution must meet certain criteria, and being educated on the differences is important when evaluating cloud solutions. The matrix shown below, adapted from George Trudell’s presentation, shows the various levels of deployments, from on-premise to true cloud:
Clearly there are benefits to each deployment model, but the case for cloud is compelling as businesses who’ve been operating in a cloud environment are reporting significant benefits: cost savings, faster time to value, better IT utilization, more collaboration, and increased security.
Migrating to the Epicor Cloud ERP Solutions
Epicor has developed a migration pricing model with the intention of helping their customer base make an easier move to the cloud: On-maintenance legacy clients can migrate their solution (module for module) to the cloud for 40% off SRP for the life of their cloud deployment. Off maintenance clients can do the same for 30% off SRP. But it’s not all about money; the cost savings can be substantial, and additional benefits from a cloud deployment can include:
- Improvement in business agility
- Improvement of speed of implementation and deployment
- Faster delivery of new features and functions
- The ability to support business innovation with new capabilities
- Allows focus resources on more important projects
Epicor’s commitment to be a cloud-first company was demonstrated at the Insights event and is further supported by their pricing structure and cross-platform applications designed specifically for the cloud.
