As of March 8th, 2016, it is now possible for organizations to run their entire business in the cloud on Microsoft Azure with Office 365, Power BI, Cortana Analytics, CRM, and the newest release of Microsoft Dynamics AX 7. This brings together a new set of analytics, ERP, infrastructure, and database services.
Microsoft Dynamics AX 7 and Azure
Built for Azure and running on Azure, the new Microsoft Dynamics AX 7 is a newly architected solution offered in 173 localizations as a true multi-tenant SaaS offering. With Azure, Dynamics AX delivers elastic scalability allowing organizations the freedom to scale the solution up or down as needed. By leveraging the technology of the cloud, Microsoft uses Azure services to integrate thigs like Power BI to bring a new level of productivity and intelligence to the business. The new technology allows for faster deployments, repeatable implementations, and automated methodologies; this reduces some of the risk typically associated with an ERP implementation.
The Role-Based Interface
The new Microsoft Dynamics AX 7 release showcases a role-based interface which Microsoft is calling “Workspace.” This interface delivers key information to the end user, allowing them to make smarter decisions and take decisive action. HTML5 and responsive design will allow the workspace to be delivered via a tablet, smart phone, or PC, and has been dialed back to include only information that is relevant to the user. The Azure services enable collaboration and integration across business functions and applications, including CRM and other external data sources. This will give users end-to-end visibility.
Task Recording with Microsoft Dynamics AX 7
If the user interface and navigation aren’t intuitive enough, Microsoft has a new task recorder built into the system. This feature allows users an ability to record processes which can then be used for training. In addition to the new Workspace, Microsoft is also integrating Cortana Analytics into AX, allowing users to search and execute business functions using only their voice.
Manufacturing and Distribution Features
Some other new features in this release of Microsoft Dynamics AX 7 specific to manufacturing and distribution include:
- Production Floor Management Workspace
- Master Planning Workspace
- Purchase Order Workspace
- Job Card Device Page for clocking in and out of jobs, etc.
- Excel integration
- Azure Machine Learning
If none of these features are compelling enough for an upgrade, consider this: As cloud technology continues to advance, by leveraging vast amounts of cloud ERP data, Microsoft expects business applications to become truly intelligent. They will not just deliver information, but also make suggestions, perform tasks, and even schedule automated processes.
