Every month we discuss ERP projects with dozens of manufacturing and distribution companies. In every conversation, the discussion gets to the cost of systems and how they can be justified. As part of our engagements, we deliver a detailed business case for change. We do this not purely to satisfy the customer’s Board, but to establish the value target for the project. Much of the discussion on value revolves around improving productivity of the “white collar” team, and making that team twice or even three times as productive.
Technology Enablement and ERP for Food and Beverage Manufacturing
We also see the business case changes from industry to industry. This month we have worked with several Food and Beverage manufacturing companies.
The Food and Beverage manufacturing sector continues to be very active in technology enablement projects. We are seeing many food and beverage manufacturers want better tools for lot trace management, the ability to schedule multiple SKU’s with variable attributes, and equally sales management.
In the last few years we have seen a strategy change: Food and beverage manufacturing is investing more in product development to deal with rapidly changing food habits and the dynamic tastes of ever-changing populations and generations. This has led to the acquisition of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and R&D development tools, and the payback for mid-sized food and beverage manufacturing has been significant.
